About

A few words about me

I'm Minas Karamanis, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. Originally from Greece, I studied physics in Thessaloniki, mathematics in Cambridge, and earned my PhD in astrophysics from the University of Edinburgh. My work lives at the intersection of statistics, machine learning, and the physical sciences, but outside the lab I'm drawn to the broader questions of how we do science, navigate academia, and make sense of the world around us. This blog is a space for those kinds of reflections.

You can reach me at mkaramanis@proton.me or find me on Bluesky at @minaskar.bsky.social.

On AI and writing

I write everything on this blog myself. After drafting, I edit using grammar checkers and occasionally an LLM to polish the prose. The ideas, arguments, structure, and mistakes are mine.

Rules of engagement

Wherever you fall on the AI debate, I'd ask that you treat the people you disagree with as people. Criticism of the ideas and arguments presented here is always welcome. Harassment, abuse, bullying, and racism will be blocked at the first instance.

If you enjoy what you read here and would like to support more writing like this, you can buy me a coffee.
